Dental Sealants
Brisbane

At Swish Dental our goal is to prevent dental disease.

That is why the dentists place dental sealants also known as fissure sealants on all back teeth when a patient is at risk of developing tooth decay. Preventing one filling prevents a lifetime of fillings! (as fillings are typically replaced every 10 years)

Focusing on preventing tooth decay

The era of drilling and filling will hopefully come to an end thanks to the latest research and technology that is making preventative dental treatments such as fissure sealants a common procedure. The evidence recommends that all kids and adults should have protective sealants if they are at a higher risk of decay.

Preventing a dental filling on a tooth can save a whole lifetime of dental work on that tooth.

What is a dental sealant?

Dental sealants are are glossy tooth coloured filling materials that are carefully brushed into the deep pits and fissures of your healthy teeth to: a) prevent bacteria attacking these areas b) making them easier to clean which in turn helps prevent tooth decay.

What are dental implants?

Who should have them?

Any children or adults who are at risk of developing tooth decay should have fissure sealants placed in the grooves of their teeth to minimise the risk of tooth decay developing. Studies show that there are only benefits of having sealants to protect teeth.

How long do they last?

Typically fissure sealants last 5-10 years but we often do see them lasting over 20 years. Not bad for a little coating that can prevent a lifetime of fillings! The dentists will often replace them rebate only if you are a regular patient at Swish Dental.
